Testimonials

Cindy Brewer, Past President, Active Member

“I joined JL to make new friends and to volunteer in the community. What I got out of JL was really being involved with committees and projects that impacted my community, learning more about my community, awesome training, having fun, and long lasting friendships where I would of never met these women outside of JL.”

Margaret Holman, Past President, Sustainer

“I became a member of the JLSC in 1999 when I first moved to Sioux City. League gave me the opportunity to meet other women and get to know my new community. And, as I learned over time, the JLSC is a party with a purpose! The women in league always have fun at meetings but they also have an important purpose behind everything that they do: to develop projects that make Siouxland a better place. My membership has brought me many lifelong friends, learning opportunities, leadership experience, and made me feel very connected to Sioux City. I am a better citizen and a better person for having joined league. It is one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

Krista Wassenaar, Past President, Active Member

“Junior League is so much more than a volunteer opportunity for me.  I love that feeling that you are helping others, but Junior League has become much more than that.  It has allowed me to meet some truly great women who I’m happy to call friends, and to learn more about myself both professionally and personally.  I love attending meetings and events – it’s the best way to keep up with my fellow Leaguers!!”

Susan Fey, Active Member

“Upon moving back to Sioux City, where both my husband and I were born and raised, we felt a bit like fish out of water. Many of our friends had moved away or we had not connected with those who still lived here in a long time. Our families are both here, but we knew we needed to make some friends and a network of people outside of our family to rely upon for support and, hey... fun! So, we both joined a variety of groups and charitable organizations. I was introduced to Junior League by Ann Slater, a friend I made through the Sioux City Growth Organization. From the first JL meeting I went to, I felt at home. I loved the strong, forward thinking women in the group, and I knew that I could find a great group of friends in Junior League, while also making a difference in Siouxland. And, that was exactly what happened! Junior League has given me so many opportunities to grow; in fact, last year I started my own business. I know that the leadership skills and support from the women in Junior League help me to grow as a person, personally and professionally. I am so proud and glad to be a member of the Junior League of Sioux City.”

Michelle Bostinelos, Nominating Chair, Active Member

“I joined Junior League after moving back to Sioux City. My Mom was a long time Junior League member, and I remember as a child her attending Junior League activities, the Discovery Shop, and all her Junior League friends.  I knew joining the Junior League of Sioux City would give me an opportunity to reconnect with my community that I was returning to and make new friends.  I hope to pass on the tradition of Junior League with my daughter some day!”
